Ragetube for Podcast -- 2023

The Ragetube is a stress transformation device that was built in response to the creation of podcast pilot episode called initially called "Patent Pending" for a company called Walking Cinema. I was fortunate to be invited to work with the Podcast crew and Several other artists to create an updated version of a device that was used to purge and measure stress by yelling into a mouth guard of sorts. Each of the artist were invited to finish their piece during the podcast recording in front of the audience and then have that audience member try out the effectiveness and style fo the device.

The Ragetube prototype I made was based on the idea of taking all that energy from a cathartic scream and funneing it into a 'intake' pipe (a snorkel) and then transforming it into a something else. Namely the mild non sequitur of triggering the sounds of geese honking and the inflation of a small balloon, to capture and visualize in some way the amount of effort one puts into the device. The podcast production is now complete and in the process of getting to broadcast. There is going to be a possible follow up on this podcast, with another challenge invention phase.

Center for Democracies Project -- 2019 - On going

As part of this larger ongoing project on the Future of Democracacies Project that I have been involved with the visiting artist Jonathon Keats, I had him come to the art department lectures series in the Spring of 2022 to share an update on what we have been working on the last year. I also got the art106 class involved this semester as part of project which culminated as a group show at the end of the semester.

Students worked with Jonathon and myself on the shows various projects including the creative use of biological stress sensors on both people as well as a unique project involving finding consistent protocols for understanding stress levels for house plants using bananas as ethylene gas indicators. The class helped organize and produce the show, as well as showing pieces of their own.

We spent a good part of the fall of 2022 working on creating partnerships both within the university as well as outside, which has resulted in some grant seeking opportunities that are based on a joint venture with various faculty from the Social Sciences. This project will be engaging in some new directions in 2023 including these grant proposals , including a possible show at the SJ ICA in 2024.

C5 Archive: The Other Path -- 2022 - On going

Currently working on recreating a piece that originally premiered in 2005. This project I originally worked on when I was part of the art/business hybrid called C5. We had show in SF Camerawork titled the ‘C5 Landscapes Initiative'. As part of this show there was a installation piece called the Other Path, which involved projecting onto laser engraved glass.

Fast forward to today, and the group wanted to create an updated version of the piece, including the software, that will work with current projectors and media players. This is part of a larger project of creating a up-to-date archive of several C5’s pieces. So the challenge has been working with the original software and the hardware that is needed to unit and then update it for current tech. Working on older tech and just the process of recreating a piece for current technology, has been a unique challenge and interesting exploration on the whole topic of the life span of digital artwork.
